Serving??? – compassion and serving ????

What? really??

I do enough during the day without more serving you may say!

In the last of the series on Compassionate Leadership, Prof Michael West has “intending to help or serve each person”.

Compassion and serving go together.

In the very definition of compassion – “Compassion is an empathic understanding of a person’s feelings, accompanied by altruism, or a desire to act on that person’s behalf” – there is a desire to help or serve.

So what can this look like?

We are not talking of lords with lots of serfs type serving!

Accompanying the colleague to speak with the Boss or loved one,

Helping them navigate the new computer system in the office,

Asking for their opinion in a meeting,

or quite simply, making an extra cuppa for them on your tea break or when you notice they are flagging.

Compassion and Serving

It really is quite simple, but greatly effective.

In essence a kindness that you would do for your fellow human being.

What “act of service” have you done today?

What “act of service” can you do tomorrow?
